Citizens United

At our June 27, 2013 meeting, we would like to vote to endorse, or not endorse the 4 Congressional Resolutions. Eachresolution overturns part of or all of the Supreme Court Decision of Citizens United. Please read them. CLICK HERE to download ALL 4 RESOLUTIONS in PDF format in one file

Each resolution advocates the overturn of parts of or all of the Supreme Court Decision of Citizens United. The 4 Resolutions:

(1) McGovern has 2 Resolutions with approx. 24 Congressional sponsors. Taken together, they allow for limitations on political spending, and state that constitutional rights are for people, not for entities created by law.

(2) Edwards Resolution has approx 44 Congressional sponsors. It prevents corporations and organizations from unlimited monetary contributions, but still allows wealthy people to donate unlimited amounts. It does not address so-called corporate “rights” other than spending on political activity.

(3) Nolan Resolution has 1 Congressional sponsor. It states that corporations are not people, plus money is not speech so it limits contributions by corporations and individuals.

(4) Deutch Resolution has 44 Congressional sponsors. It provides for limitations on contributions and expenditures to influence elections. It does not address putative corporate “rights” other than spending on campaigns/elections.

Since we are years away from any viable action, we need not dwell on the wording, BUT show our appreciation to all of these Congressmen in taking a stand against Citizens United.
