Wal-Mart Rally Wednesday July 17 8:00 AM in Pleasanton

RALLY AGAINST WAL-MART
Wednesday, July 17
8:00 AM
3120 Santa Rita Road in Pleasanton
At the Grand Opening of Wal-Mart’s Neighborhood Market

“Welcome to Pleasanton” rally by a broad coalition of concerned community, labor and political groups will highlight the vast number of abuses imposed by Wal-Mart to the communities in which they open. Those attending the rally include former Pleasanton City Councilmember Matt Sullivan, Tri-Valley and San Ramon Valley Democratic Club members, United Food and Commercial Workers UFCW 5, TriValley Move On Council and labor union members.

Cheap prices are the direct result of Wal-Mart’s low wages which forces their employees to obtain on average $6,200.00 per year in tax dollar funded public assistance including food stamps. Those tax dollars in effect subsidize Wal-Mart’s profits. Move On members will be wearing 100 dollar bills representing tax dollars subsidizing Walmart profits. They will be reminding city officials and others invited by Wal-mart of the REAL price of low cost to our community.

Wal-Mart just fired over 20 employees for trying to improve working conditions. As Wal-Mart talks about improving economic conditions in the communities they serve, almost 3 jobs are lost for every two low wage job they create. From 2001 to 2006 U.S. job loss from Wal-Mart is estimated at 196,000, due to its imports from China.

You are invited to join us on July 17th at 8 AM to make your voices heard. Remember that Wal-Mart cheap prices are paid for by us, the California taxpayer, costing us Millions of Dollars in welfare. A study in 2012 found that paying Wal-Mart employees $12.00 per hour would result in less than a $2.00 per month increase to the average Wal-Mart consumer. Low prices do have a real cost to all of us.
