A former America Online executive and vice president of NetZero, the soft-spoken Bob Pack has turned his family’s tragedy into a mission to help others. He has used his background to design an electronic update to the state’s Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System (CURES) database, enabling doctors to see what prescriptions their patients already have, and giving the Justice Department immediate alerts of possible abuse. Pack will speak in favor of the Act he proposed and which has been endorsed by Senators Feinstein and Boxer.
The Act has three components:
1. Mandatory drug testing for doctors-Many mistakes during surgery because doctors are not tested; reported in US Today that an estimated 10,000 doctors in California abuse drugs
2. Database of prescription history of individuals-so individuals cannot get prescriptions of Schedule 2 & 3 drugs from multiple doctors
3. Raising the cap on malpractice to $1.1 million, adjusting it for 38 years; current cap of $250,000 was set in 1975.

Danville resident Jerome C. Pandell is running in the November 2014 general election to become one of the five elected trustees on the Board of Education for the San Ramon Valley Unified School District — home of Jerome’s elementary, middle, and high schools. Jerome currently serves on the University of California Hastings College of the Law Board of Governors as well as a member-at-large of the board of directors of his residential community, the Landmark Oak Homeowners Association. Born in Walnut Creek and raised in Danville, Jerome is a proud product of the San Ramon Valley’s outstanding public schools, from Rancho Romero Elementary School to Stone Valley Middle School to his graduation with high honors from San Ramon Valley High School in 2001. Jerome went on to graduate from Northwestern University in 2005 with honors in political science before returning to California. From 2001 through 2005, Jerome served as an instructor and director of the Stanford University National Forensic Institute, teaching dozens of high school student speech and debate. After graduating from U.C. Hastings College of the Law in 2008, Jerome began practicing construction law at Pandell Law Firm, Inc., in Walnut Creek.
