Do you know why the June election is so important? The county-wide elections can be determined in June! It is not just a “primary!” It is THE election for Contra Contra County District Attorney and Contra Costa County Superintendent of Schools.

At our February 22 meeting, the San Ramon Valley Democratic Club endorsed District Attorney Diana Becton for Contra Costa County District Attorney.

On March 22, we will hear Lynn Mackey, candidate for Contra Costa County Superintendent of Schools! As the Senior Director for the Contra Costa County Office of Education, Lynn works directly with the current County Superintendent, Ellen Sakata, who fully supports her candidacy. Lynn has a clear understanding of the distinct role that the County Superintendent plays in terms of direct programs for students and oversight and support for the 18 school districts in Contra Costa County. Come to hear the vision of Lynn Mackey.

Rebecca Barrett, Campaign Consultant, Campaign Fundraiser, Progressive Fighter

Rebecca Barrett, Campaign Consultant, Campaign Fundraiser and Progressive Fighter, knows what it takes to make a campaign successful. Rebecca will be our second speaker to show us how grassroots organization can make a difference.

Rebecca’s experience is impressive. She has constructed and implemented an in-district fundraising plan for Congressman DeSaulnier that raised nearly $200,000 in 2016. She has effectively managed all aspects of a campaign, including fundraisers and events, candidate messaging, donor pledges plan, direct mail, op-eds, and field campaign work.

With over ten years of campaign experience, Becca has worked to elect State Superintendent Tom Torlakson, Congressman Mark DeSaulnier, Supervisor Diane Burgis, Lynn Mackey for County Superintendent, and most recently Rebecca Bauer-Kahan for State Assembly. She is She has recently been elected as President of the Contra Costa Young Democrats, and when she is not campaigning you can catch her behind her camera or watching Netflix.

Do you know about Proposition 13 Reform? This commonsense reform will decrease the tax burden on working families, and make California’s property tax system fairer. our third speaker is Campaign Manager Carly Schaaf from Evolve who will explain the reason we all need to fight for a ballot measure to reform Proposition 13.

In 2013, the San Ramon Valley Democratic Club heard a speaker from Evolve and we as a club endorsed a resolution to support Proposition 13 reform. We are having an Evolve representative return, because (1) we have many new members who are unfamiliar with Evolve, and (2) we need to be able to tell all of our friends and relatives about this ballot measure to enlist their support so it passes!

Carly graduated from UC Berkeley in May 2016 where she studied Political Science and Sociology. While at UC Berkeley, she developed a passion for effecting positive social change, something she’s put into practice through her work on the 2016 Presidential Primaries, the 2016 Berkeley mayoral race, and then at a high-impact civil rights law firm. Her desire to reduce economic inequality and increase social mobility drove her to join Evolve in Fall 2017. In her spare time, Carly enjoys reading and talking about moral philosophy, being in the sun, and dancing to very loud music.

Please join us at 6:00 pm to talk about the latest political news and network.
