talk about the consequences California’s very first Open Primary. As the political editor of the Contra Costa Times, Lisa has access to many of the candidates, both Democrats and Republicans. She always has fascinating details about the campaigns and election results. Moreoever, she is a lively and entertaining speaker. You won’t want to miss this meeting!

Lisa Vorderbrueggen has been the political writer and columnist for Contra Costa Newspapers and Knight Ridder since late 2004. Prior to her political assignment, she covered regional growth and transportation at the Times.

She joined Knight Ridder in 1996 after working as the Carson City, Neveda, bureau chief for the Reno Gazette Journal and as a Washington, D.C., correspondent for the Las Vegas Review Journal. She also worked as reporter, editor and columnist for the Nevada Appeal, a Carson City, Nevada, daily. Vorderbrueggen’s work has been recognized by the California Newspaper Publishers Association, Nevada Press Association and the East Bay Press Club. She earned her bachelors degree in journalism in 1989 at the University of Nevada, Reno.

A fifth-generation Oregonian, Vorderbrueggen lives in Martinez with her husband, Joe, in a lovely suburban house the couple will one day sell for an obscene sum of money in order to buy a sailboat and head for blue waters. After that, look for her byline in the travel section under “Tahiti.”

Kish Rajan

Kish will give us a democratic perspective of California’s first Open Primary. Kish Rajan was elected to his first four-year term on the City Council in November 2008. He has previously served as chair of the Walnut Creek Transportation Commission. A graduate from U.C. Berkeley with a B.A. in U.S. history, Rajan later earned a J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law. He is currently director of North America mobile sales with SanDisk Corporation.
Rajan and his wife, Evie, have three children.
