The San Ramon Valley Democratic Club welcomes Tony Thurmond, candidate for California State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Come hear Thurmond’s plan to make certain each California child receives the education needed to reach his or her potential. Hear his plan to make Californian schools the best n the nation.

Tony Thurmond served on the Richmond City Council, where he was a liaison to the Richmond Youth Commission and Workforce Investment Board. He served as School Board member of the West County Unified School District, where he oversaw truancy prevention programs. He also supported school-based mental health programs, and launched a program called CEO Youth to teach entrepreneurship and life skills to disadvantaged youth.

Serving as a State Assemblyman, Tony Thurmond made improving public education his top priority. He helped to pass legislation to provide millions of dollars to school districts to keep children in schools and out of the criminal justice system. He fought for money to make sure that all California youth in foster care have the opportunity to go to college. He has also fought for increased funding for early education.
