On April 28, 2022, the San Ramon Valley Democratic Club endorsed:
Assembly Bill 587 – Social Media Transparency & Accountability
AB587 AB 587 would address the troubling lack of
transparency by requiring social media platforms to publicly disclose their content moderation polices and report key data and metrics around the enforcement of their policies. This disclosure would be accomplished through public filings with the
Attorney General as outlined below:
1. Disclose corporate polices, if any, regarding:
a. Hate speech and racism
b. Disinformation or misinformation,
including health disinformation, election
disinformation, and conspiracy theories
c. Extremism, including threats of violence
against government entities
d. Harassment
e. Foreign political interference
2. Disclose efforts to enforce those policies
3. Disclose any changes to polices or
enforcement
