California Water Crisis?

With climate change heating our earth, California water is a precious resource. During the intense heat of the summer with little rain, our water supply is stressed. Three speakers who will help us understand the complex issues. Dr. Jay A Davis is the lead Scientist at the San Francisco Estuary Institute. Chris Austin is a leading voice in California Water issues, and Deidre Des Jardin is the Director of California Water Research.

Dr. Jay A. Davis, SF Estuary Institute
Dr. Jay A. Davis is Lead Scientist of the Regional Monitoring Program for Water Quality in San Francisco Bay, a comprehensive water quality monitoring program.Dr. Davis grew up near the PCB-contaminated aquatic food web of Lake Michigan. He has worked on contaminant issues in San Francisco Bay since 1986. He received his Ph.D. in Ecology at the University of California, Davis in 1997. Dr. Davis is also lead scientist for the Bioaccumulation element of the California State Water Resource Control Board’s Surface Water Ambient Monitoring Program, which conducts statewide surveys of contaminants in aquatic food webs. Dr. Davis is also the co-Director of SFEI’s Clean Water Program.
Chris Austin, Mavens Notebook
Chris Austin who writes Mavens Notebook has earned a stellar reputation among the state’s agricultural, environmental and water stakeholders for unbiased, complete, timely and accurate reporting and news curation. With a decade of experience writing and aggregating California water news for multiple websites, Chris Austin was recognized in 2016 by online news agency Environmental & Energy Publishing as one of nine Californians who play key roles in water policy. In 2015, her work was recognized with a scientific journalism award from the California-¬?Nevada chapter of the American Fisheries Society, and a merit award from the California Water Policy Conference. In addition to writing original content and aggregating news for Maven’s Notebook, Austin also contributes water?related content to Capitol Weekly, Estuary News, and KCET SoCal Connected.
Deidre Des Jardins, California Water Research
Deidre Des Jardins, Director of California Water Research, has done research, synthesis, and policy analysis of California water issues since 2009. She has a background in physics and computational modeling, and has done research at NASA Ames Research Center, the Center for Nonlinear Studies at Los Alamos National Laboratory, and the Santa Fe Institute for Complex Systems.
California Water Research also has extensive experience in working with environmental, fishing, and Delta groups to provide comments in California water planning processes and on proposed projects, as well as providing expert testimony on scientific and engineering analyses in hearings.
