Cheryl Cook-Kallio, Candidate for AD16
The San Ramon Valley Democratic Club enthusiastically welcomes Cheryl Cook-Kallio who it unaminously endorsed for Assembly District 16 at its February meeting. High confidence of changing Joan Buchanan’s former seat to blue is gaining, because Cheryl Cook-Kallio is an exciting candidate who is highly qualified, extremely knowledgeable about the issues and motivated! Cheryl has earned the full, enthusiastic support of Assembly Speaker Atkins and Assembly Speaker-elect Rendon. At the CDP convention February 26-28, she received many key endorsements and a great deal of support!
You don’t know about Cheryl Cook-Kallio? Her life has been dedicated to public service and volunteerism. As a teacher, she spent 39 years educating our youth in the areas of Advanced Placement U.S. History and U.S. Government, and Honors Economics. She received many rewards.
Cheryl has also served as an elected council member. She served eight years on Pleasanton’s City Council, where she led the way to increase affordable housing, expand parkland and implement curbside recycling. Working with regional transportation agencies she improved roads to find solutions to traffic gridlock. As a council member, she was one of the successful negotiators of responsible, fiscally conservative employee contracts.
Cheryl earned her BA degree in History from the U. of North Carolina, Charlotte, and her MA degree in U.S. History from San Jose State U. Interestingly, in 2002, she was selected to serve as a James Madison Congressional Fellow for United States Senator Diane Feinstein on the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee.

We also welcome Cynthia Dai, a member of the California’s Citizens Redistricting Commission, which was created by the voters to eliminate gerrymandering and ensure fair representation. She will share what it was to be on the “startup government agency” that drew 177 electoral districts for the State Legislature and Congress based on 2010 census data and citizen input in less than 8 months. Cynthia Dai is a native Californian, and second-generation Asian-American. As an experienced entrepreneur and CEO of strategy firm, Dainamic Consulting, Inc., Ms. Dai has advised growth organizations and social ventures for 20+ years and often serves as an interim executive of both early-stage and public ventures.
Ms. Dai has an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science with honors from UC Berkeley. She has taught Leadership and Entrepreneurship courses at Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology; launched the Tsinghua-Berkeley Global Technology Entrepreneurship Program in Beijing, China; and is a frequent guest speaker on social entrepreneurship at international conferences.
A popular speaker, she has presented at UniForum, the Government Technology Conference, the Global Entrepreneurial Economic Forum (Beijing), the International Symposium for Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship (Beijing), and the Skoll World Forum (Oxford).
She is active in the community as a volunteer and currently serves as a Board member of Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship. Commissioner Dai is registered with the Democratic Party and lives in the City and County of San Francisco.
