Craig Cheslog CDP Region 2 Chair
California Democratic Party Region 2 Director Craig Cheslog will lead a conversation about what we should learn from recent elections in our area. The discussion will include an analysis of the recent Senate District 7 special election. Several of our SRVDC members have heard this talk, and were so impressed with the types of data Craig has pulled together that they thought his presentation would be great for our club.
Cheslog will also talk about how the Democratic Party is organized and how grassroots clubs can have a larger impact and elect more Democrats in our communities, county, and region.
Craig Cheslog was elected the California Democratic Party’s Region 2 Director in April 2013 and re-elected in May 2015. Regional Directors are officers of the California Democratic Party and are responsible for assisting the state party with developing, assisting, and coordinating the County Central Committees, and clubs. He maintains a Region 2 website, which includes a regional calendar of Democratic events, at cademregion2.com
Craig joined Common Sense Kids Action in January 2015 as its Co-Director and Vice President for California Policy. Based in Common Sense’s San Francisco office, Craig is the co-director of the organization’s advocacy platform and is responsible for California-specific policy development and legislative campaign execution across all of Common Sense’s issue areas.
Craig previously served as the Principal Advisor to California State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson at the California Department of Education for four years. Before joining the California Department of Education, he served as Torlakson’s district director for his Assembly and State Senate offices for six years after serving as a District Coordinator and District Representative.
Craig has been a member of the Planned Parenthood Northern California Action Fund’s Board of Directors since 2009, during which he has been on the endorsements committee and working to support policies that protect access to high-quality, affordable, comprehensive health care services for women, men, and teens. He also previously served as the president of the Lamorinda Democratic Club for five years.
Prior to joining Torlakson’s staff, Craig served as a communications and government relations director and manager for nonprofit issue advocacy organizations, including Oakland’s Redefining Progress and the Washington, D.C.-based Concord Coalition. He also served as the sports information director for his alma mater, Bowdoin College, from which he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in government and legal studies with a minor in education.
