Why are there so many candidates running for an elected position? One reason for the increase in the number of candidates is district voting. Both San Ramon City Council and the School Board have been divided into districts. San Ramon City Council has 4 districts, and the School Board was 4 areas. Candidates have a smaller area in which to campaign for votes.
For San Ramon, voters will only vote for the City Council position up for election in their specific district. All four current Council Members will continue to represent the City at-large until their term ends. At the end of their terms, the council members can run for re-election in the district that they currently live in. In San Ramon, Districts 2 and 3 are up for election in November 2020. Republican Scott Perkins in District 2 will run in his district. There is one Democrat, Luz Gomez, running for that seat. Democrat Phil O’Loane of District 3 has decided not to run again. We know of one Democratic candidate, Srihar Verose running for that seat.
For the SRVUSD, Republican Mark Jewett of District 2 is up for election and he has decided to run. There are two Democratic candidates: Shelley Clark and Priscilla Graft. In District 3, Greg Marvel has decided to run. There are two Democratic candidates: Laura Bratt and Kumar Nullasamy.
The Town of Danville does not have districts. It has three seats up for election. Newell Arnerich who is a Democratic is running for his seat. Renee Morgan who is a Republican is defending her seat. And Lisa Blackwell is not running. There are three seats open for election and four candidates who are Democratic: Newell Arnerich, David Fong, PJ Shelton and Turner Stanton.
For San Ramon Mayor there are 4 candidates who are Democratic: San Ramon Vice Mayor Sabina Zafar, Aparna Madireddi and Dinesh Govinarao
