Assemblymember Joan Buchanan, elected to the State Assembly in November 2008, currently represents the 15th Assembly District, which includes portions of Alameda, Contra Costa, Sacramento and San Joaquin counties. Her new district, as a result of 2010 Redistricting, is the 16th Assembly District, which includes the Contra Costa County communities of Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda, Alamo, Danville and San Ramon. The 16th District also includes the Alameda County communities of Pleasanton, Dublin and Livermore.

Joan was received appointed to Chair the Education Committee. A member of the Assembly Budget Committee, Buchanan chairs the Budget Subcommittee on State Administration and Information Technology. She serves on a number of additional policy committees including, the Education, Transportation, Utilities and Commerce, and Accountability and Administrative Review committees. In 2009, she was appointed by the Speaker to the Special Education Commission and in 2010, the Speaker appointed her to the Standing Committee to the Judicial Council on Court Technology and to the State Allocations Board. She also chairs the Select Committee on Government Efficiency, Technology, and Innovation. Joan has pursued a legislative agenda focused on fiscal accountability, technology and innovation, and job creation. She has been a proponent of performance based budgeting, using data to drive decision-making and the allocation of resources. She has authored several bills to improve the development and acquisition of information technology by the State of California, recognizing that technology is critical to providing timely and cost-effective services and information to the residents of California. In 2012, Joan led the Assembly’s review of the Governor’s Reorganization Plan successfully fighting for significant changes in the plan.

Senator Ellen M. Corbett is serving her second term in the state Senate and was elected Senate Majority Leader by her fellow Democrats on December 6, 2010. As Majority Leader, Senator Corbett is responsible for setting the Democratic agenda, managing the Senate’s Floor operations and the chief advisor in political matters and strategy to the Senate President Pro Tempore.

Throughout her career she has focused on strengthening California’s economy, standing up for consumers and protecting our natural resources while encouraging the growth of our green economy.Among the landmark legislation she has passed are laws to give consumers more information about bottled water, allow cash back for gift cards worth up to $10 and give car buyers additional protections.

Senator Corbett was first elected to the Senate in 2006 and was reelected in 2010. She represents the 10th Senate District, an East Bay district that includes the cities of San Leandro, Fremont, Hayward, Union City, Pleasanton, Milpitas and Newark and part of San Jose, as well as the communities of Castro Valley, San Lorenzo and Sunol. A lawyer and civic activist, she is dedicated to protecting the rights of consumers, encouraging educational opportunities and working to grow California’s economy.
