The San Ramon Valley Democratic Club is honored to have United States Senate candidate Kevin De Leon speak at our August 23 meeting. De León was elected Senate President Pro Tempore and was sworn in on October 15, 2014. A member of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, he is the first Latino to hold this position in over 130 years. He is known for his landmark legislation, the California Values Act, also know as Sanctuary State legislation.
Kevin De Leon represents the 24th Senate district, which encompasses Downtown and East Los Angeles. Before the 2010 redistricting, he represented the 22nd Senate district. Prior to being elected to the State Senate in 2010, De León served in the California State Assembly, representing the 45th Assembly District.
