The San Ramon Valley Democratic Club welcomes community members who will present the advantages and disadvantages of the Contra Contra County jail expansion. Supervisors Candace Andersen, Diane Burgis, Karen Mitchoff and Federal Glover approved a contract proposal offered by Sheriff David Livingston for an expansion of the West County Jail in Richmond. The proposal is based on receiving $70 million from the state government contingent upon Contra Costa County supplying $20 million, and $5 million for each future year. Supervisor John Gioia was the only “No” vote against the jail expansion. Senator Nancy Skinner has asked the Supervisors to cancel the jail expansion. The question is whether the jail expansion is the best use of the county’s money.
