The San Ramon Valley Democratic Club welcomes Admiral Michael Baker from his return of his 4th trip to Ukraine where he has been teaching Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) to civilian and military medical providers and Stop the Bleed (StB) to civilians in Ukraine.
Michael Baker recently retired from a 40 year career in general surgery and trauma. He had a parallel career in the military with a spectrum of experiences that included qualifying in a warfare specialty, combat deployment with the Marines, and strategic planning for both major conflicts and humanitarian emergencies. He retired with the rank of Rear Admiral and has numerous kudos including 3 Legion of Merit Awards which he wears alongside his Combat Action Ribbon and others. He currently teaches Political Science and Military Affairs for the Osher LifeLong Learning (OLLI) Programs at UC Berkeley, Dominican University, Cal State University East Bay, and others and is on the Board of Trustees of the newly combined Commonwealth Club/World Affairs.He has published over 90 articles in peer reviewed journals.

Seth Adams, Director Save Mt. Diablo will speak about the planned 1,500 houses on more than 600 acres atop Pittsburg’s scenic ridge overlooking Concord, and the harm that development could cause. n 1988 Seth was the East Bay organization’s first staff. He focuses on advanced policy, land use, and advocacy; government relations; acquisition projects; and educational and media programs.

Jennifer Tanner of the Indivisible Green Team will speak about saving rooftop solar. She will discuss bills that are before our legislature designed to keep rooftop solar growing. She will give an overview of how our California public utilities commission, CPUC, affects ratepayers and is responsible for your high rates. Jennifer Tanner has been studying this for seven years. She is the leader of Indivisible California Green Team, the environmental arm of Indivisible California in 80 groups all over California. They are highly successful at passing good bills and killing bad bills.by mobilizing many groups to sign our letters to legislators, organizing calls and meeting with legislators and their staff.
