Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan & San Ramon Council Member Sabina Zafar October 27, 2022

Our second speaker is the the amazing San Ramon City Council Member Sabina Zafar who will ensure transparency and inclusion in our local government for all residents. One of her goals is to make San Ramon the center of technology and innovation in the Bay Area.

Rebecca Bauer-Kahan is an accomplished attorney, environmental advocate, community volunteer, law professor and mother. A Bay Area native, she has dedicated her career and personal time to improving our community, solving complex problems, protecting civil rights and fighting to ensure everyone has the opportunity to succeed.

As an attorney, Rebecca specialized in ensuring major corporations complied with environmental laws and regulations by leading internal investigations to improve their environmental practices, while maintaining profitability. She also worked with major tech companies on intellectual property cases, involving topics including copyright, trademark and trade secret theft.

Before being elected to the Assembly, Rebecca taught appellate law and legal research and writing at Santa Clara University and Golden Gate University. She is a product of Bay Area public schools and is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Georgetown University Law Center. Rebecca and her husband, Darren, live in Orinda with their three young children.

Sabina Zafar was inaugurated into office on December 11, 2018, with her 4-year term ending this November Sabina is running for the next Mayor of San Ramon. In 2019/2020, she also served as the Vice Mayor. She is an accomplished technology leader, community volunteer, mentor and mother. As a San Ramon resident, Sabina is wholeheartedly committed to giving back to her city.

Sabina Zafar was appointed to the City of San Ramon Valley Transportation Advisory Committee 2016/2017. She has served on the Board of Directors for San Ramon American Association of University Women and serves on the board of Bishop Ranch Intelligence Innovation Accelerator (BRIIA) as a mentor for early stage startups. She is a past board member of San Ramon Dougherty Valley Rotary Club, and a current Board member of Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Tri-Valley Chapter.

Sabina holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Computer and Information Systems from the University of South Alabama. She is a Technology Executive at Oracle Inc. leading Financial Services & Insurance for North America.

Sabina has raised both her children in San Ramon and they attended SRVUSD from K -12. As a parent, she has volunteered actively with the school PTA and Girl Scouts of Northern California. She is widely recognized for her efforts to bring the community together to volunteer on community projects.
