The San Ramon Valley Democratic Club will focus on urgent environmental concerns. Since California is a forerunner in combatting climate change, it is surprising that we have so many threats to our environment in our own community of Contra Costa County.
(1) The oil giant Phillips 66 refinery expansion for toxic tar sands from Canada, polluting the air for residents, and with the potential of leaking oil into the Bay.
(2) The pollution of storing and handling coal in Richmond.

Then we will hear about what cities are doing to combat the effects of climate change.
