CALIFORNIA’S ENERGY AND CLIMATE LEGISLATION FUTURE
SPEAKER: Dan Kalb, California Policy Manager, Union of Concerned Scientists

Dan Kalb has been the California Policy Manager for the Union of Concerned Scientists since 2003. Kalb works with state legislators, agency officials, civic, business and labor leaders, and other NGOs promoting strong and effective clean vehicles, renewable energy, and global warming solutions in California. A veteran at working with the media, Mr. Kalb has appeared on PBS’s NewsHour and been interviewed by dozens of reporters on various state and local energy and environmental issues. Mr. Kalb has been quoted in the Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle and the San Jose Mercury News. Immediately before coming to UCS, he worked as a chapter director for the Sierra Club, where he took a leadership role in clean energy, open space, air quality, and SF Bay protection issues. Mr. Kalb received his bachelor’s degree in Conservation of Natural Resources from U.C. Berkeley, and has a master’s degree in public administration and nonprofit management from the University of San Francisco. Dan is a member of the CA Democratic Party Executive Board and has also been a frequent policy advisor to selected candidates for state legislative and local office.

Phil O’Loane is an executive at Kaiser Permanente and was Chair of the San Ramon Planning Commission.” He recently announced he’s running for City Council this fall. His name will be on the Nov. 8 ballot. He led the opposition to San Ramon’s Measure W on last year’s ballot and is a strong supporter of maintaining our open space.”Urban growth boundaries are a linchpin of our community’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a balanced approach to growth,” O’Loane said in a prepared statement. “I am proud to have been able to team up with people who share a vision and an energy for open space preservation in the Tassajara Valley and our Western Hills. These areas are treasures worth preserving.” He was recently awarded Save Mt. Diablo’s “Mountain Star Award” for his work in protecting the region’s natural land.
