Letter to Supervisors

The San Ramon Valley Democratic Club recommends Approval of the following:

May 25, 2020

Dear Supervisors Burgis, Andersen, Gioia, Mitchoff, Glover,

The members of the San Ramon Valley Democratic Club were dismayed to learn that the Contra Costa County planner approved a plan to have Brentwood’s capped oil wells uncapped and start production. It has not been reported whether the application includes drilling or hydraulic fracturing. Whether it is oil or gas drilling or even just pumping, both have been found to pollute and be detrimental to the environment, and to the health of people living nearby.

We hope you can understand that any type of new fossil fuel endeavor in Contra Costa County goes against our SRVDC’s aim to rid our County of fossil fuels, and to develop alternatives such as wind and solar power.

The County planner’s arguments for approval are nonsensical. From the document: “by producing the resource (oil) in the State, this will lower the demand of importing the resource, and will ultimately create a net reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

We request that you advise the County Planner that she should not approve oil production plans that put the County’s citizens at risk.

Thank you,

The San Ramon Valley Democratic Club
