California is posting tax revenues at levels far exceeding projections. Does this mean California’s economic recovery is finally taking hold? Board of Equalization Member and Controller Candidate Betty Yee offers her observations about the state’s economy and continuing challenges for policymakers.

Since late 2004, Betty Yee has served as our member on the California State Board of Equalization, the nation’s only elected tax commission. She has over 30 years of experience in public finance and tax policy. Betty previously served as the Chief Deputy Director for Budget in the California Department of Finance, leading the development of the Governor’s Budget, budget negotiations with key stakeholders, and fiscal analyses of legislation.

A native of San Francisco, Betty is a graduate of Cal Berkeley and earned her Master’s in Public Administration from Golden Gate University in San Francisco.

The San Ramon Valley Democratic Club is proud to have Betty Yee speak at our May meeting. She gave an extraordinary speech at the California Democratic Party Convention in LA March 8, 2014. Those of us who heard speak valued her acknowledging the corruption and potential of corruption in both Republican and Democratic candidates and elected officials, because of the power of money in political campaigns.

Even if you opt to attend just the meeting, please join us at 6:15 pm to talk to socialize and have fun.
